FIAD screening of 'The Brutalist' celebrates theatrical distribution in Europe
FIAD, in partnership with the Motion Picture Association - EMEA, UNIC - The International Union of Cinemas, and NBCUniversal, hosted a memorable evening at UGC De Brouckère with a cocktail reception and an exclusive screening of The Brutalist. The critically acclaimed film from Brady Corbet, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce, set the perfect stage to highlight the importance of theatrical distribution and the cinema-going experience.
The event welcomed over 150 attendees, including EU officials, diplomats, and representatives from the film and audiovisual sector. It was an opportunity to showcase the cultural and economic significance of film distribution and reaffirm the industry's commitment to bringing a diverse slate of films to European audiences.
FIAD was honoured to have newly elected Hungarian MEP Zoltán Tarr (EPP Coordinator for the CULT Committee) deliver opening remarks. He underscored the enduring societal value of the cinematic experience and the need to support policies that sustain and promote film distribution in Europe.
Before the screening, Laura Houlgatte (CEO of UNIC), Beatrice Flammini (Vice President Government and Regulatory Affairs at NBCUniversal), and FIAD Secretary Robert Heslop addressed the audience. They highlighted the crucial role of film distributors, who work year-round to acquire and promote films that cater to Europe’s diverse audiences.
The evening was a testament to the resilience and vitality of the theatrical sector. In 2024, cinemas across Europe saw strong audience numbers, with hundreds of millions of Europeans of all ages and backgrounds embracing the big screen experience. As we look ahead, 2025 promises to be another exceptional year for theatrical distribution, with a wealth of films set to captivate audiences.
