FIAD presents "Projecting Progress" Panel Discussion at Cannes 2023
FIAD, in collaboration with the European Coordination of Independent Producers (CEPI), International Video Federation (IVF), International Union of Cinemas (UNIC), and International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), is excited to announce the organization of a panel discussion at Cannes 2023. The event, aptly titled "Projecting Progress: How best to cultivate and grow audiences in a dynamic and diverse film landscape", will be held on Saturday, 20 May 2023, from 17:30 to 18:30 CEST, on the Palais Stage (level -1) at Palais des Festivals, Cannes.
Recent data shows that audiences are once again returning to cinemas, a trend that underscores the enduring appeal of the cinema as a pillar of European culture. As the film industry builds on this positive trend, the question arises: how can we continue to cultivate diverse cinematic experiences across a broad range of content? How do we connect audiences with stories they know and love, and simultaneously introduce them to new experiences that broaden their horizons?
Our panel discussion aims to address these questions by bringing together four esteemed speakers, each representing a different sector within the film industry. They will offer insights into how the industry can effectively promote the breadth of available titles to attract wider audiences, while also presenting new cinematographic experiences that challenge cinema-goers and inspire them to discover new films.
Our first panelist, Anders Kjærhauge, is the CEO of the Zentropa Group. With a diverse background that spans law enforcement and legal departments, Anders will bring a unique perspective to the discussion.
Joining him will be Kim Foss, the Managing Director of Camera Film and Grand Teatret. With a career that has transitioned from the music business to film festivals, and now to arthouse cinema and distribution, Kim's insights will be invaluable.
Next, we have Robert Enmark, Head of International Acquisition at SF Studios. With 40 years in the industry and experience in roles ranging from video rental distribution to TV sales and international film acquisition, Robert's contribution will undoubtedly enrich the conversation.
The panel will be moderated by Laura Houlgatte, CEO of UNIC. Laura has been recognized on Celluloid Junkie's list of the Top 50 Women in Global Cinema in 2020 and featured on Politico's list of Women who Shape Brussels in 2018. Her fluency in English, Spanish, and basic Dutch, as well as her extensive experience in European affairs, will enable her to facilitate a lively and enriching discussion.
The event is open to all who possess an access badge to the Palais des Festivals. Alternatively, you can participate virtually as the event will also be livestreamed. To confirm your attendance, please RSVP at filmincannes2023@europe-analytica.com.
As we look to the future, the film industry must continue to evolve to meet the demands of a diverse and dynamic audience. "Projecting Progress" aims to be a catalyst for this conversation, drawing on the expertise and experience of our panelists to illuminate the path forward. We hope you will join us on this journey.
